The Fort Wayne Philharmonic is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Mikis Theodorakis' birth, honoring his legacy as a renowned Greek composer. Theodorakis, known for blending symphonic and folk music, composed over 1,000 works and was an influential political activist. His film scores, including Zorba the Greek, Z, and Serpico, earned him international acclaim. The Philharmonic, led by Troy Webdell, will perform selections from Zorba the Greek in a special concert on March 22, 2025. The event will also feature the Philharmonic Chorus, narrator Melisa McCann, and bouzouki player Kostas Sotiropoulos.

In collaboration with Carnegie Hall the Fort Wayne Philharmonic is participating in Link Up “The Orchestra Sings,” a music education program provided by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute (WMI), during the 2021-2022 season. The nearly 2,000 students in northeast Indiana participating in the Link Up curriculum will attend a culminating concert on Feb. 16 and 17, 2022, at the Embassy Theatre conducted by Music Director Andrew Constantine. Students will sing and respond to the orchestra from their seats. This experience often serves as a students’ first concert and provides them with the opportunity to apply the musical concepts they have studied.

Fort Wayne Philharmonic musicians, the American Federation of Musicians, and Local 58 Fort Wayne Musicians Association have failed to respond to repeated requests to return to the bargaining table since Sept. 28 when the Philharmonic management negotiating team delivered its latest proposal for a new collective bargaining agreement. In addition, the Union continues to publish untruthful summaries of the Philharmonic’s position.
