A New Series Designed To Cultivate A Love Of Classical Music… One Drink At A Time

Music + Mixology, the Philharmonic’s latest audience-building initiative, is specifically geared toward young professionals who want to experience classical music and enjoy networking opportunities in a relaxed setting and at affordable prices. 

The Music + Mixology format is simple: begin with a Masterworks performance and follow it with a post-concert gathering with drinks and social time at Wine Down, Fort Wayne’s elegant and popular wine bar, just steps from the Embassy Theatre. 

Wine Down has developed a wine tasting concept not found anywhere else in Fort Wayne, offering uniquely crafted drinks, wine flights, and thoughtfully prepared foods to complement its social atmosphere. Since opening in March of 2015, Wine Down has built upon its original concept, expanding into one of Fort Wayne’s top restaurants, boasting one of the area’s finest bar programs. In the summer of 2016, Wine Down added Fort Wayne’s first fully operational outdoor bar and grill, The Sidecar, to meet the demands of Fort Wayne’s outdoor dining enthusiasts. 

Hosting each Music + Mixology evening is Caleb Young, the Philharmonic’s assistant conductor. Young is known as the affable host of the popular Musically Speaking pre-concert series, with a unique ability to connect with audiences and relay the human-interest stories behind the music. 

Three Music + Mixology evenings have been scheduled during the 2017-2018 season. The first one, on November 4, was paired with Brahms and Rachmaninoff, featuring violinist Philippe Quint. It was a great success: the concert, the conversation, and the conviviality at Wine Down were savored by everyone who attended. The remaining two evenings will be:

• February 3, 2018, 7:30 p.m., Embassy Theatre — Scheherazade
• April 28, 2018, 7:30 p.m., Embassy Theatre — The Leningrad Symphony

Music + Mixology is truly affordable. Tickets are just $25 per event and include group seating at the concert (seated by the Philharmonic with other Music + Mixologists) plus one coupon for a drink at Wine Down.
