NEW SERIES ANNOUNCED: FORT WAYNE PHILHARMONIC PRESENTS!
FALL ACTIVITIES AND CONCERTS INCLUDE EDUCATION, ENGAGEMENT

Fort Wayne, IN (October 13, 2020) — The Fort Wayne Philharmonic announced today a series of concerts and activities under the new banner, Fort Wayne Philharmonic Presents!. Events will be produced at various locations throughout the city and include a Violins of Hope retrospective with violinist Vadim Gluzman, and a celebration of the Sestercentennial of the great composer’s birth with a mini Festival called Beethoven@250. The first in this novel series features the Fort Wayne Philharmonic Youth Symphony Orchestra performing the great German master’s monumental 5th Symphony and continues with an all-Beethoven sonatas concert with pianist Orion Weiss. Christmas at the Clyde highlights the talents of Tony DeSare’s jazz trio and Broadway singer Capathia Jenkins. Philharmonic donors, subscribers, and past ticket holders will receive exclusive invitations to these events.

The Fort Wayne Philharmonic will also continue to present a full slate of educational and public engagement events throughout the Fall and Winter months. In addition to the Beethoven@250 concert featuring Beethoven’s 5th with the Youth Symphony Orchestra on Nov. 8, education and engagement offerings include a Beethoven’s Birthday Anniversary program streaming into classrooms, an introductory video for students featuring Music Director Andrew Constantine, resource materials for students, a digital slideshow, and teacher guide.

Philharmonic Board Chair Chuck Surack said the programs keep the joy of classical music in the community and in schools during these challenging times. “We are delighted to offer the brand-new Fort Wayne Philharmonic Presents! Series, education, and engagement events for the community and region. The management team has worked hard to ensure everyone’s enjoyment and physical safety while exploring novel concert formats and unique partnerships,” he said. “ These presentations uphold the Philharmonic’s mission to foster and instill a lifelong love of symphonic music through performance and education.”

The successful Club Orchestra and Club Kid-O programs, a partnership at three Fort Wayne Community Schools, will continue beginning in mid-October. Offsite instructors will be virtually streamed into classrooms to support local, on-site music teachers. Club Kid-O will proceed with streamed instruction and prerecorded video lessons made available for Pre-K and K-1 teachers. Plans for a High School Mentorship program with Associate Conductor Caleb Young and an Adult Music Learning initiative with Music Director Andrew Constantine are also being planned.
