A graduate of DePaul University, she received her Bachelor of Music in viola, and then earned her Master of Music in viola in 1994 from the University of Akron. Welter first began playing the instrument at age eight. She has performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Cleveland Chamber Symphony, South Bend Symphony, and the Evansville Philharmonic, where she was Principal Violist. She also has participated in the Aspen Music Festival and the Bowdoin Music Festival. Welter is married to electrical engineer and clarinetist David Welter and has a four-year-old son, Noah. Her hobbies include cooking, skiing and photography.
