Andrew Nowak
Andrew Nowak has distinguished himself straddling both the symphonic and operatic realms early in his career. Currently, he serves as the Acting Principal Timpanist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and the Principal Timpanist of the Des Moines Metro Opera. His dynamic expertise and musicality have earned him similar appointments, including notable positions with the Detroit Opera, Toledo Symphony, and the Maryland Symphony Orchestra.
A passionate advocate for music education, Nowak has dedicated nearly a decade to teaching in Title I schools, significantly impacting young students' lives through his commitment to nurturing musical talent and encouraging creative expression. His dual roles as performer and educator reflect his deep devotion to advancing the art of percussion and cultivating the next generation of musicians.
Nowak holds an undergraduate degree in Music Education from George Mason University and furthered his performance studies at Cleveland State University and Lynn Conservatory. He is an endorser of Freer Percussion products and plays on Adams Philharmonic Light timpani. Residing in Toledo, Ohio, he enjoys life with his wife and their two cats.
