Tango Rhythms and Latin Dances
Andrew Constantine, conductor
JP Jofre, bandoneon
Violetta Todorova, violin
Join us on a journey as we explore the vibrant sounds of music from South America and Spain with an array of Latin-infused masterpieces. The evening begins with Ginastera's Estancia: Four Dances, Op. 8a, a rhythmic exploration of Argentine folk influences that will transport you to the heart of South America. The excitement continues as JP Jofre, described as "one of the greatest guys you’ll come across...a wonderful bandoneon player, terrific musician, and real presence on stage," brings his mastery of the bandoneon—a South American cousin of the accordion—to Fort Wayne for the first time. Jofre will join forces with Fort Wayne Philharmonic concertmaster, Violetta Todorova, to perform his Double Concerto for Violin and Bandoneon, a thrilling duet showcasing both artists’ talents. The unique fusion of classical and tango traditions continues with Piazzolla's Aconcagua: Concerto for Bandoneon, and the evening will conclude with de Falla's El sombrero de tres picos (The Three-Cornered Hat): Suite No. 2, bringing the spirit and flair of Spanish folklore to life.
