Campbell MacDonald is Principal Clarinetist of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic and a fixture at chamber music, opera, studio, pop and orchestral music venues throughout the mid west.
Seattle native Campbell MacDonald recently began his 12th season as Principal Clarinet of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic. Prior to moving to Fort Wayne in 2004, Campbell held positions in the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra, the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra in Detroit, and spent six summers in Mexico City as Solo Clarinetist of La Orquésta Sinfónica de Minería. In addition to his orchestral schedule, Mr. MacDonald's uncommonly varied musical activities include regular appearances as a solo and chamber music recitalist, concerto soloist, studio recording artist, and educator.
Campbell is a founding member of the acclaimed International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE), and has appeared with the symphonies of Detroit and Grand Rapids, the Pittsburgh New Music Ensemble, Alarm Will Sound, NOW Ensemble, the Seattle Chamber Players, and the Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings. Performance credits of note include appearances at Wien Modern (Vienna), Festival Fringe (Edinburgh), the Lincoln Center Festival, the Mostly Mozart Festival, the Ojai Music Festival, and the Great Lakes Chamber Music Festival. Additionally, he has performed at the Library of Congress (DC), EMPAC (Troy, NY), the Green Music Center (Sonoma, CA), Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of New York. Campbell's recent and upcoming performances include concert series in Paris and Quiberon, France, the Huddersfiled Festival (England), Los Angeles (L.A. Opera), Da Camera Houston, and at Columbia University, Boston Conservatory, the Hartt School, and Harvard University. His recorded work can be heard on the Naxos, Koch, Nonesuch, and New Focus labels.
Mr. MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlln College Conservatory of Music and attended graduate school at DePaul University in Chicago. He has studied privately with Larry Combs, David Weber, Lawrence McDonald, and Laura DeLuca.
