Opening Night – From Elegance to Decadence

October 4, 2025

Andrew Constantine, conductor
James Ehnes, violin

Start the 2025/26 season right with a journey from Elegance to Decadence. First, enjoy the beautiful Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune by Debussy. Inspired by a poem which translates to Afternoon of a Fawn, it spotlights the fine first flute of the Philharmonic. Next, experience firsthand the then (1924) controversial pantomime by Bartok, The Miraculous Mandarin Suite. The evening finishes with Brahms’ only Violin Concerto, considered one of the greatest of all time, featuring the talented soloist James Ehnes.

Musically Speaking

Arrive early and enjoy Musically Speaking, a pre-concert conversation with the conductor and guest artists. Gain behind-the-scenes insight into the music and performers.

  • Begins at 6:30 p.m. inside the concert hall
  • Free for all ticket holders

Complimentary Ride Service

Enjoy a stress-free evening with our free round-trip Ride Service for Masterworks concerts. Open to patrons age 70+ and those with medical conditions that make driving difficult. Space is limited, so reserve early!
